At the start of 2014 my husband and I had no idea how drastically our lives were going to change. We had just bought a nice new house ready for when we wanted to start a family, paid for a puppy that we would get in April and started having the "I think we're ready to start a family chat". We had been in our new home for a week and something just felt different, so I popped down to the supermarket on a Thursday afternoon as my hubby was going to be away hunting that weekend and I didn't want to find out without him there if my feelings were right! I did the test that day and straight away there were 2 lines..... Yeap..... we were pregnant!! It was sooo not what I thought or like what you see on the movies, I didn't jump up and down and scream with excitement, I just slowly walked into the lounge and said "Hub, we're pregnant!" haha his reaction was the same as mine! Slightly shocked!!
Off to the Dr's the next day for the confirmation! Her exact words when I retured with the test were "Yeap, you're very pregnant!!" as the lines were as dark pink as they could possibly be but nothing even triggered it could be twins! We worked out my due date easily as my body clock is so precise so no need for a dating scan.
The next few months were slow, chose the midwife, heard A heartbeat (yip, just one!) and then 12 weeks came along and it was time for our first scan.... I remember the drive so vividly as we joked on the way there... "haha imagine if it's twins!" we said as a very close friend had just had her twin boys. We got to Mercy Hospital, got called through and the scan started. I was looking at the screen in front and my hubby was looking at the sonographers. She put the wand on, moved it round then took it off. At the time nither of us said a thing but both thought "hmmm that looked like 2... NAH!" She then put it back on and casually said "So there's 2 in there, you're having twins" and started to carry on. We pretty much both said "woaaahh up just a second... twins??!!" And that's where the journey began!
Fast forward to now and we have to happy almost 1 year old identical twin boys. It's been a huge learning curve as I really am not the most maternal of people so nothing has "come naturally" as they say but I love those two monkeys more than anythig and although I was going to be happy with just one baby, I wouldn't change having them for anything!
We've gone from being just me and my hub to having 2 kids and a dog in very short space of time. Life is full and time is limited but we have fun and make the most of every second - that's what it's all about :)
I am no expert so these blogs will be full of my mistakes, learning curves and break throughs that make it all worth it!!
